Your College social life includes any time that you don't spend studying and attending class. It may consist of just eating out with friends for lunch or dinner or it can be a full blown girl’s night out. College parties usually start on Wednesdays. Most bars and clubs near college campuses will also be packed starting on this day because they attract students with promotions such as 2 for 1 drinks, no entrance fees before. This is especially true if most of the students who attend that particular college go home for the weekend.
If you want to join the early party crowd to enhance your College social life, you must learn to prioritize your school work so that you won't be behind schedule. There are a few ways in which you can do this. For example, if you get off from class around 3 p.m. on Wednesday then, you will have time between then and 9 p.m. to do some homework. This becomes important when you have homework, paper or project deadlines on Thursday and Friday. So, look at your schedule ahead of time and finish the ones that are due first then the next one and so on.
One thing to remember if you live in the college dorms and go to parties outside of campus is that you will usually have a curfew. However, if you don't have a curfew you should set one for yourself. (I know, this might sound lame right now but believe me...it helps to have one). This is essential because:
You don't want to be too tired to do anything the next day especially if you have an early class or work hours
The trouble usually starts when during the late hours because more people get drunk etc.
There are times when you just got to have a late night session with your friends. That is fine as long as you don't have anything important going on for the next day. If this is the case, make sure that you stay with a big group of people for safety considerations.
One thing that college students have a bad reputation with is drinking. I'm pertaining to drinking alcoholic drinks, of course. The thing is, drinking is part of the majority of the student population's College social life. If you are the type who does not drink alcohol at all, learn how to turn down offers so that you don't succumb to peer pressure. On the other hand, if you like to drink as part of socializing, here are a few things you can do to stay out of trouble:
Don't drink and drive - I know that you probably heard this phrase too many times but drinking and driving not only ruins your College social life but also other areas of your existence. I know of a lot of people who got caught doing this and they have learned their lesson. How? First, drunk driving penalties and fees can cost you over $3,000. Second, your license will be revoked for a certain period of time. If (big if) ever they grant you limited driving privileges, you can only drive to and from work or school. As a result, you can't go anywhere you want to at anytime you wish. You always have to depend on somebody to take you to places. Lastly, but not the least, your car insurance premium will go up. You may have heard all these things before but it won't hurt to hear them again. Remember, driving is a privilege, not a right :) That's if for my sermon...I mean, advice..lol.
Leave enough time between drinks - By definition "a drink" is equal to a bottle of beer or one cocktail. In general, your body takes about 1 hour to metabolize that one drink so you should not have more than one drink within an hour. Also, if you don't have a designated driver you should leave enough time between your last drink and your driving time. If you want to be on the safe side, you can either call a taxi or sleep over at a friend’s house.
If college parties are not your thing and you prefer doing outdoor activities, you can bring some school work with you so that you can work on them during down times. I normally don't like to do this because I end up not doing anything at all. But, if a paper or project is due soon, then you are more likely to work on it when you have it with you.
College is more fun and less stressful when you prioritize your school responsibilities first. This really is one of the keys to having a successful College social life.
